Background
Snorchy was created to provide my family with a search engine web page that provided filtered search results by default.
Doesn't Google and other search engines provide filtered results?
Yes, but the highest level of filtering is generally not active by default. A user can change the filter setting, but this takes a number of clicks to accomplish and can be changed by other users or software. Snorchy is particularly useful on public computers or other times when you or your family may need to perform a quick search using someone else's computer.
Where do the search results come from?
Snorchy uses Google's SafeSearch engine; no additional filtering is provided. Google's SafeSearch removes most adult sites from the search results.
Will Snorchy eliminate all objectionable sites?
No. However, it is the simplest way to remove most of the adult sites from general internet searches.
Can I do anything if an objectionable site is shown in the search results?
The search results come from Google. However, you can click on the following link to report these sites: Google Feedback
What makes Snorchy different than other filtered search engine portals?
It's free and quick. Many filtered search engines charge a fee or they include distracting ads or graphics that bog down the website. Snorchy only has a few small text ads in addition to the few that are generated by Google.
Snorchy is a stupid name. Why do you use it?
There are very few short and pronounceable ".com" domain names available. Since this site was primarily for my family's use, I didn't want to spend thousands of dollars on a more hip name. Snorchy is short, pronounceable, and fairly easy to type-in.
